Vuosaari is a part of the eastern end of Helsinki. I have lived a few years there shortly after I moved to Finland. It takes about 20 minutes with the subway to the city center and offers quite a few possibilities if you are interested in outdoor activities and photography. I would recommend visiting those places during sunrise and sunset.
For photography, I especially like these places in Vuosaari:
- Uutela which a nature park in Vuosaari where you can walk in the forest and also along the shore of the Baltic Sea.
- Kallahtiniemi is a bit similar to Uutela but goes further out into the sea.
- Aurinkolahti beach offers a nice view of the sea.
- Vuosaarenhuippu is an old dumping place that has been transformed into a recreational area and offers a nice view towards Vuosaari and Helsinki center in the distance.
From Uutela and Kallahtiniemi it is possible to walk over the ice to the nearby islands during the wintertime. The shores are also easily accessible by car as there is a parking place nearby. However, if you plan to visit Vuosaarenhuippu then you need to walk a little bit (about 30 mintues).
